Came by Kibune by accident, hidden away in the corner and was pleasantly surprised at how great the food was! Beautiful presentation as well!
Probably one of the best, most authentic Japanese restaurants in Vancouver, managed by Japanese people. The food we had was excellent, it's a little expensive for a reason.July 2019 update: We ate at Kibune a second time, it wasn’t as good honestly. Still pretty good but wasn’t worth the price I would say.
Very good fresh sashimi. The location is great. And great staff
Fantastic. Sit at the bar and watch the magic unfold. One of the best sushi places around.
Worst sushi experience I have ever had. We were asked to go to the outside of the restaurant to pick up menus because they don’t have one in the room. The food is mediocre
We went with our two little daughters and they made it clear that they don’t want us there. Very kids unfriendly..... went next door to another sushi spot and had great experience. Don’t recommend!!
Fresh friendly free place. Love. Tofu dish is the best part
Superb, authentically Japanese cuisine
We came here because it was close and convenient while we were at the beach. Big mistake. The hostess was pleasant enough, luring us into a bad experience. The menu is confusing, and the food is overpriced. We waited forever for our food... probably 25-30 minutes... for sushi. Not acceptable. The food also was mediocre at best... not worth the price. The waiter refilled our teas as our meal was finishing. He didn’t ask if we could split our bills and then it took another 15-20 minutes to get our final bills. Definitely will not be coming back.
It does not taste good and it's expensive. They disguise a $8 dynamite roll under their section of "especial rolls" in the menu. Really you are paying just because it's right across the beach, but the flavour and price are both really bad. Plus the menu has very little variety.
So impressed with the service during crisis time. The fish is so fresh and staffs are very friendly. I’m really appreciate for a little thing that they wrote on the chopsticks cover. “ Thank You So Much and Arigatou”If they’re reopen for dine-in again, I’ll back there!!!Location: very close to Kitsilano beach, just across the road ❤️
Fantastic sashimi and sushi! Loved it!
Price is high, but the food is top quality. Great service and fresh tastes. Just don't go for the import beer. It's so expensive I seriously thought of drinking before I got there.
Our favourite sushi restaurant in the city! Wonderfully authentic, and drawing a loyal crowd for 30+ years. Always fresh seafood, and ask for the prawn heads. Like many other small, independent restaurants in the city, they have challenges finding service staff and sometimes are unexpected closed. A perfect summer evening is dinner at Kibune, and an evening walk along Kits Beach. Highly recommend!!
My favourite sushi restaurant in Vancouver. Sit at the bar and ask the chef for recommendations. Always a pleasure.
Place is cozy and been there multiple times. Fish was not as fresh as before and the chef's skill has drastically decrease as there was bone and scales in my sashimi. Would not go again unless the enthusiasm of the chef comes back.
Always excellent quality for many years. My go-to sushi restaurant in Vancouver. Comfy traditional decor. May be a little more expensive than budget places, but the best quality fish and ingredients. Great value.
A local gem for those who truly know how to appreciate Japanese cuisine. Anyone who comes here and says it's overrated need to accept the fact that they don't get Japanese cuisine.
First the salmon sashimi is as fresh as I've seen. The bright red of the meat is key I can't stand when an almost brownish monstrosity lands in front of me but not here. That pretty much sums up my review. Still reading? The nigiri sushi is good along with the ocean maki that I've never had before. The sushi/maki orders run you $7.50 but the sashimi will pinch your wallet at $15. The prices are a bit on the steep side but you pay for it by sending your tastebuds to a carnival. My dinner ran me just over $70 but I'm a big eater so your mileage may vary.gfdfgdf
Authentic Japanese food
The quality of the food here is impeccable. This is our favourite Japanese place in town. Authentic and delicious.
I always let Endo-san or Toshi-san create my meals, because I know, I will never be be disappointed. The way they prepare and present it's always totemo oisii
Clean and cozy Japanese restaurant with delicious food. Staff is really friendly including the owner.
Awesome place. Super traditional. For a moment I felt I was in Japan. Food is super good, a bit expensive but it was worth.
Endo San’s place has been here for many many years. I wished he was there the night I’ve visited. It’s been years since I’ve enjoyed a meal here. Doesn’t disappoint. Devoured my sushi so fast I forgot to take a picture.
Expensive. Staffs not nice. Looks grumpy.2nd visit? Will answer NO.
I dont know if you guys know this or if anyone ever told you but your side cabbage salad is really bitter and inedible! Hope you tried it first before serving it to your customer. It just contaminates the whole dish with the bitterness. The chicken teriyaki was good tho , wished you shouldve just served it with bean sprouts and not that bitter cabbage.just please change it with something else. Just here to help you out
Really close to the kitsilano beach. A but expensive but delicious food. Run by a Japanese family since many years ago! You have to try it if you are keen on Japanese food. Onhere I had a very good tea!
We went on a Friday evening without reservation. Had to wait a bit to be seated at the bar but the elderly lady was very sweet. Loved the ambiance and the food was delicious. However, the young server was quite rude -- kept serving food in between us instead of coming around to the side where it was unoccupied. Also, she dipped her thumb right into my dessert and wiped her finger on MY napkin. She did not acknowledge this nor apologize and merely sauntered away. Yuck.
This is one of the most underrated places in Vancouver. Their kitchen is pretty good and mostly covers traditional Japanese cuisine but what really stands out are their nigiris, which are at the top with the bests. They always have an interesting fresh sheet and while not as cheap as fast-sushi joints it's a great value for what you're getting.
Fantastic food. Spent 4 months in japan and couldn't find better taste, service or experience. Truly an all time favorite.
very impressed by authentic favor of the cooked dishes and cleanness of the establishment. Yes, you can find cheap roll and sushi easily in Vancouver these days, but a visit here reminds of my trip to Japan - attention to details and higher standard
I love their sashimi and their special Kibune roll.
The combination dinner offers a good variety of food. Overall food is very overpriced.
I would love to say it is a four star place. The food is great, if you are looking for the authentic Japanese sushi bar. Not hype or new of modern combos, just like seating in the fish market in Tokio. The main issue is the service. Short on servers and no trained, long waits but if you can pass that you will have a good experience.
I ordered sashimi from here and a spicy tuna roll. My fault for not looking at the price but it was insanely expensive. Sashimi for $18?? to boot the size of sashimi is so tiny. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and it was a maki roll with some spice thrown in, but again unsure if there was actaully spice in it. You can get WAY better sushi that doesnt cost nearly as much at other places.
The sushi here is very good. They offer a very authentic Japanese feel when you enter the restaurant. The wait staff is very nice. The sushi is expensive compared to other restaurants in the area but the preparation, presentation, and flavor of the sushi is much better here. Expect to pay about $30 per person when you have dinner here.
Expensive place! We waited 1 hour to get our order and Sushi was terrible. I definitely don't recommend this place at all.
Sashimi and sushi was just average and found the pricing to be on the higher end. Would have got better food at other Japanese restaurant. Service is slow as there are only 2 wait staff. May give them another try, but so many other better Japanese places, so a slim chance I would come back.
Really good and authentic sushi, places a bit small and might expect a wait. But really worth it if you want good sushi.
We really enjoyed the service and food here, and although it's a little on the pricey side, it's because they're using quality ingredients. Some of the items weren't our *favourite*, like the beef tataki and aji fry, but others were AMAZING. They have some of the most delicious salmon I've had in town, and I would highly recommend their salmon maki and kappa maki. They also had an amazing pumpkin croquette on special. All in all, we will definitely be back, and we will be sticking to their amazing sushi.
Fantastic food and service
Just saw a staff member run down the street after my girlfriend because she forgot some of the takeout, great stuff guys
Well it was an extremely pleasant surprise to visit a Japanese restaurant in Vancouver that still adheres to the zen like culture of watching your sushi master create your dishes! I've found my new favourite sushi place, yay. Granted the place has been around for 30 years and is still voted by locals as top notch. The space is zen, the food is gorgeous (none of that new age cream cheese and avocado nonsense on everything), the chef absolutely lovely and the service great. The food is so good! The seafood are fresh, like ocean fresh. The presentation just beautiful. Almost reverent in the placing of the dishes. Worth every penny. Love it love it love it.
It is the best authentic Japanese food I have found in Vancouver at a reasonable price.
It's our favorite place. I am happy to know that my daughter will be a customer for life. It's the place I come to everytime I return from a trip, just so comfort food can be had.
Good people ,good comfortable environment booths available for traditional sitting and private gathering. Food was good
Amazingly fresh sashimi and authentic decor
Smelt bad. Food was good. Good wild salmon.
Good
